Obituary for Peter P. Krochta

Peter P. Krochta, 88 of Easton PA died Sunday, January 14th. His wife Elizabeth (Betty) Babich Krochta originally from Scranton PA preceded him in 2008. Peter and Betty spent over 40 years as residents of Manville, NJ before spending time in Florida and North Carolina.
Born in Jessup, Peter was the son of the late Peter and Julia Anderison Krochta. His sister Andrea Krochta Sniegocki preceded him in 1976.
Peter is survived by his daughters Lisa and son-in-law Nicholas Cipriani, Sr. (Easton PA), Kathy Isaacs (Atlanta GA), Cindy Buckholt and son-in-law Dr. Michael Buckholt (Chalton, MA), grandsons Michael Isaacs (Atlanta GA) and Matthew Isaacs (Nashville TN) along with brother John and sister-in-law Arlene (Ruskin FL), brother Nicholas and sister-in-law Barbara (Phillipsburg, NJ) and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

A graduate of Blakely High School in Peckville PA Peter added to his education during his military and working career by completing certification classes at the University of Alaska, Oklahoma Agricultural and Medical College, Rutgers University and North Carolina State University.

Peter was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1954 which included time in Alaska, Oklahoma and Louisiana.

An employee of Union Carbide Corporation in Bound Brook NJ for 36 years Peter ended his career managing the Research & Development Maintenance Department before taking early retirement and starting a second career managing the Maintenance Department at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ.

Peter had an active political career starting in 1962 as an elected member of the Manville School Board of Directors serving as President his last year. He then held subsequent elected offices as Manville Recreation Director, Chairman of the Zoning Board, Manville Councilman including being Council President before ending his political career in 1983 as the Election Board Commissioner for Somerset Country New Jersey.

Having a lifetime love and interest in law enforcement Peter served as a member of the Manville Civil Deference team, was a Manville Special Police Officer from 1962 to 1970 and Manville Police Commissioner from 1971 to 1975. In 1976 he broadened his law enforcement involvement to the state level holding positions as a State of NJ Board of Trustee Member responsible for reviewing inmates eligible for parole. He ended his career in the late 1980s as Chairman of the State of NJ Board of Trustees, an appointed position by the Governor of New Jersey.

During his lifetime Peter enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, volunteering at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Hillsborough NJ and later at Saints Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Bethlehem, PA. Peter obtained his private pilot’s license in the 1966 and was most proud of re-certifying his license on his 85th birthday.

The funeral will be Saturday with Office of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, First Avenue, Interment parish cemetery, Jessup.
Friends may call Saturday morning in the church from 10:30 am until service time. In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or the Disabled Veterans Association (www.DVA.org).
