Obituary for John Smolko

John R. Smolko Jr. of Eynon died Thursday September 6, 2018 at the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit. His wife of 35 years is the former Diane Caldara.
Born in Peckville he was the son of Joan Russin Smolko and the late John R. Smolko Sr. A graduate of Valley View High School, Class of 1978, he also graduated from Paul Smith’s College. Prior to his illness he was employed by Schiff’s Food Service. He was a loving Dzedo to his two grandchildren and loved spending time outdoors.
Also surviving are son John H. Smolko and wife Jennifer; daughter Krista Smolko and fiancé Matthew Soltis, all of Peckville; grandchildren Tyler John Smolko and Olivia Tillie Smolko; mother and father-in-law Hugo and Rita Caldara, Eynon; sisters-in-law Lisa Coassolo and husband Dave, Peckville and Christine Caldara-Piatos and husband Vaios, Camp Hill; brother-in-law Robert Caldara, Eynon; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sister Sharon Cartwright.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kishori and all of the staff at Northeast Hematology and Oncology as well as Dr. Baikadi and all of the staff at NROC.
The funeral will be conducted Monday at 8:30 A.M. from the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home, 1003 Church St., Jessup, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s of Czestochowa Church, 417 Main St. Eynon. Interment St. Michael’s Cemetery, Jessup. Family and friends may pay their respects Sunday from 2 – 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 712 S. Keyser Ave. Taylor, PA 18517.
