Carmella Arcaro of Taylor died Saturday November 19, 2016 at the Mid-Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of Anthony J. Arcaro who died in 1997.
Born in Scranton she was the daughter of the late Pasquale and Angelina D’Oro Lentini. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School, prior to her retirement she had many jobs in her lifetime which included the Scranton Tobacco Factory, the Globe Store, Woolworths, The Castle Restaurant, Arcaro & Genell, and Farley’s. Carmella and her husband opened a small diner in Old Forge in 1972. They updated the corner of Main St. and Moosic Road in Old Forge and built and established the Willard Room. The name was later changed to Anthony’s of Old Forge named after her son Anthony. After over 25 years in business, she decided to sell due to her husband’s death which was a great loss to the family. She volunteered in the past at St. Mary’s School and was a former member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She also volunteered at the Taylor Nursing Home. She was a member of the Old Forge Retired Citizens and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary-Siculo American Leauge. She was a cancer survivor twice and overcame devastating circumstances from her illness. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, the Yankees, Frank Sinatra concerts and baking. Some of her specialties included New York style cheesecakes, cannoli, and cassata cake.
Carmella’s family would like to thank all the medical staff that cared for her, especially the Mid-Valley Manor Personal Care staff, Dr. Ralph DeMario, Dr. Eugene Harasym, Dr. Anthony Brutico, Dr. David Onafrey, Dr. Carl Barsigian; friends and neighbors who supported her through her illness. A very special thank you to Alan Krenitsky, her son-in-law, who was always there for support and assistance.
Surviving are a daughter Patricia Krenitsky and husband Alan; brother Charles Lentini; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by son Anthony Arcaro; sister Anita Connors.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 12:00 P.M. (Noon) in St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, 123 W. Grace St., Old Forg. Interment Italian-American Cemetery, Scranton. Everyone attending the funeral is asked to proceed directly to church. Friends and family may pay their respects Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 in the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home 1003 Church St. Jessup.
