Obituary for Julius "Jay" Scassellati

Julius (Jay) Scassellati, age 97, passed away on July 3, 2018 at Sunrise Assisted Living in Morris Plains, NJ where he was a resident for the past several years. Born in Jessup Pa, he moved to Dover, NJ in the 1940s.

Jay proudly served in the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corp) and was a lifetime member of the CCC Legacy. He was in the 373rd Engineers in WWII, serving in France. He worked as a master welder at the Picatinny Arsenal prior to WWII until he retired in 1985. Jay volunteered for the next 30 years at Dover General Hospital.

Jay was an avid gardener, beekeeper, fisherman, winemaker, conservationist, music lover, and supporter of many charitable causes. He was always willing to help his friends and relatives. He was loved by all.

His niece and caregiver, Linda Janssen, her husband Richard Janssen, and her daughter Ashley survive him. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Scassellati; nieces Rella Scassellati, Angela Muchal, and Janet Carr; nephews John Scassellati Jr., Alfred Giombetti, Roy Frontani, and Paul Minicozzi.

He was preceded in death by brothers Richard and John Scassellati; sisters Antoinette Frontani, Mary Giombetti, and Ida Minicozzi.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday in the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home 1003 Church St., Jessup at 10:30 am. with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Queen of Angels Parish in St. Michael's Church, First Avenue, Jessup. Interment with Military Honors to follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Friends and family may pay their respects Saturday in the funeral home from 9 – 10:30 am.
