Life Story for David J. Cucura

David J. Cucura of Dickson City died Tuesday at the Geisinger Community Medical Center.
Born in Jessup, the son of the late Martin J. Sr. and Mary Konick Cucura, he was a graduate of Jessup High School and from Lackawanna College. He was a proud United States Army veteran and served in Vietnam. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, along with the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal and the Staff Service Honor Medal. Very active with volunteering, he helped other veterans and service groups in attaining service benefits.
An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are a daughter, Amy Freeman and husband, William, Dickson City; sons, Patrick Cucura and wife, Julianne, Roaring Brook Twp.; and David Cucura Jr.; granddaughter, McKenna; sisters, Jean Cucura, Jessup, Mary Ann Weary, Olyphant, and Nancy Roman, Dickson City; brothers, Martin J. Cucura Jr., Florida, and Robert B. Cucura, Jessup; nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Georgette Musko; brothers, George, Paul and Stephen.
The funeral will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. from the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home, 1003 Church St., Jessup, with Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. in Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, First Avenue, Jessup. Interment with military honors to follow in the parish cemetery, Jessup.
Friends may call Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
