Obituary for Peter Krenitsky
Peter Krenitsky, 92, of Clarks Summit, passed away peacefully Sunday at the Regional Hospital of Scranton. His first wife, Florence Lukasiewicz Krenitsky, died in 1994. He leaves behind his widow of 24 years, Gloria Spatt Kriegler Krenitsky.
Born on July 1, 1928, and raised on East Scott Street, Fern Hill section in Olyphant, he was the son of the late Metro and Anna Sucheniak Krenitsky and was a graduate of Olyphant High School and attended Johnson School of Technology.
He was an outstanding football player for the Olyphant Bulldogs, a member of the Scranton Amateur Football League, and accepted a Division I Football Scholarship to play at the University of Maryland. After playing with the Maryland Terps, he left college and found that his true calling was in the military where he served his country from 1947-1982.
He was a lifelong member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Olyphant. He worked at Daystrom in Archbald, owned & operated the Barracuda Bar in Peckville, and was one of the founding members of the Papa Bear Club.
Peter was a retired United States Army colonel and a Korean War veteran who served in Germany with the NATO Forces. A member of the 109th Infantry Division Pa. Army National Guard retiring in 1982 as an operations and training officer. He held numerous military positions during his tenure and was the recipient of many military and state awards. He was past commander and a life member of Shopa-Davey VFW Post #6082, Peckville, and also was a former Pa. department commander of the VFW.
He was a life member of the Raymond Henry American Legion Post #327, Olyphant, and in 1996, he received the Chapel of Four Chaplains Legion of Honor Award.
Also surviving are a daughter, Karen Gartner and husband, Brent, Malvern; sons, Dr. Peter Krenitsky and fiancée, Susan Sebastianelli, Clarks Summit; and Dr. Kevin Krenitsky and wife, Kathleen, Naples, Fla.; grandchildren; stepdaughter, Faith and husband, Fred Middleton; a sister, Helen Brojack; brothers, William; and Myron and wife, Barbara; nieces and nephews; and was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Kiehart, Jean Barkofsky and Tillie Albini; and brothers, Michael, Nicholas, Thomas, Joseph, Ted and John Krenitsky.
Committal graveside services and military honors will take place on Saturday at noon in St. Cyril’s Cemetery, Peckville. Please adhere to CDC guidelines and masks must be worn.
