Obituary for George Martin

George Martin, of Burlington, North Carolina, (formerly of Eynon, PA) died June 3, 2021. Loving husband of 65 years to Margaret Salitsky Martin.
Born May 6, 1928, son of the late John Martin and Anna M. Stefursky Martin, he was a member of Holy Ghost Church, Jessup, PA. After serving his country as a United States Army corporal during the Korean War, he joined the Woolworth Corp. working for their Kinney Shoe and Footlocker Divisions. He remained employed there for the next 43 years retiring in 1993 as a merchandiser working from their corporate headquarters in New York City.
George was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10729, Jessup PA., serving as Grand Knight. He was also a member of Post 7963 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Eynon, PA., and Post 0328 of the American Legion, Archbald, PA. George was proud of his time serving as a past Boy Scout Master of Troop 6, Pottsville, PA, he was an avid golfer and a huge fan of the New York Football Giants. He enjoyed participating in various bowling leagues and softball teams during his life, especially the during the times his sons also played on the same teams.
He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who cherished his family. He gave his all to them as well as all who knew him. He was happiest when gathering friends and family and one could always hear his laughter across a room. George had a service driven spirit and was involved with numerous charities throughout his life, always being the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Surviving are his son, George and wife Nancy, Helmeta, N.J., daughter, Elizabeth Gore, Burlington, N.C. and son, Eric and wife Francesca, Queens, NY. He is also survived by grandchildren, William Gore, Anastasia Wilde, Amanda Gagliano, Joseph Martin and Nicholas Martin; along with 6 great grandchildren. His two sisters, Marion and husband, Vito Cerullo, and Andrea Hart; two brothers, John and wife, Marie Martin, and Joseph and wife Marion Martin; along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister Joan Mackrell and brothers-in-law Gerald Hart and Al Mackrell.
The funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 9:00 am in the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home, 1003 Church St., Jessup with Panachida service at 9:30 in the funeral home. Divine Liturgy at 10 AM in Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church, 313 1st Ave., Jessup. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends and Family may pay their respects Monday, from 5 – 7 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Knights of Columbus Council 10729, 605 Church St., Jessup, PA 18434 or the American Cancer Society, https://donate3.cancer.org. Lowes Funeral Home of Burlington NC has also assisted with final care arraignments for George.
