Obituary for Donald S. Pitoniak

Donald S. Pitoniak, 87, a lifelong Jessup resident, died Saturday June 19, 2021 at the Geisinger C.M.C. surrounded by his family. His wife of 67 years is the former Gloria Tini.

Born in Peckville he was the son of the late Martin and Mary Cupina Pitoniak. He was a graduate of Jessup High School, Class of 1952 where he excelled for the Jessup Greenwave Football Team. He was the 31st employee hired by RCA in Dunmore, where he retired from.

Don was a member of the Jessup Hose Co. #2, Station 25 for 63 years and he was the chief for 6 years. He was a founding member of Jessup Ambulance in 1963. He organized Junior Firefighters in 1974. For 23 years he and his family ran the pizza fritta stand at the annual Fireman’s carnival in Jessup.

Always active, Don coached midget football, was an avid bowler, golfer, softball player, and loved to travel. He never missed a Valley View Cougars football game.

He was a former member of St. Mary’s Assumption Church in Jessup, currently a member of Christ the King Parish in Archbald. After retirement he was a valued member of the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home staff.

Also surviving are sons Steven Pitoniak and wife Donna, Jessup and Jeffrey Pitoniak and wife Susan, Archbald; son-in-law Wayne Grosvenor;
Grandchildren Erik and fiancé Samantha Raneilli, Justin, and Leigha Lee Grosvenor, Edward Anderson, Stephanie Davis; great-grandson William Grosvenor; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by daughter Lois Lee Pitoniak Grosvenor;
Grandson Martin Joseph Grosvenor; brothers Elmer and wife Ann, Eugene and wife Nicki; sister Mary Magdalene and husband Gene Munley.

The funeral will be conducted Friday at 9 am from the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home, 1003 Church St., Jessup with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Christ the King Parish, 429 Church St., Archbald. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Jessup. Friends and family may pay their respects Thursday from 6-8 pm. Memorials in Don’s memory may be made to the Jessup Hose Co. #2, Hill St., Jessup.
