Obituary for Mary Lynn O'Donnell

Mary Lynn (Mair) O’Donnell, 78, of Jessup died Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul J. O’Donnell who died on October 18, 2012.
Born in Jessup, she was the daughter of the late Leno and Margaret “Peggy” Washo Giombetti. She was a 1963 graduate of Jessup High School and a beauty school graduate. She & her sister-in-law were co-owners of a women’s clothing store “The Wardrobe.” Prior to retirement, she worked at the Lackawanna County Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide and then served as their Volunteer/Activities Coordinator. Her community involvements included: serving as an election-site worker; membership in the Valley View Cougar Kickoff Club, the group “Citizens for a Healthy Jessup” and a Greenwave Class of ’63 reunion committee member. She and her husband were foster parents to five children & members of the Lackawanna County Foster Parents Association. From the mid 1970s-1980s, they operated “Ol’ Giombetti’s Hall” (her family’s homestead) in Jessup.
Mair was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother, and friend. She loved Asian décor, hosting parties/dinners, playing cards & rummikub, doing puzzles, her Dunkin’ coffee, watching every political debate ever aired, sitting on the porch with family or friends and her fur-baby, Sadie. She loved to laugh and make people laugh!
Surviving are son Paul and wife Devon, Dickson City; daughter Gina Butler and husband Bruce, Scranton; Heather Chindemi and husband Joseph, Jessup; grandchildren Taelen, Jocelen, Dylen & Madelen O’Donnell; Sean Butler and wife, Ashleymary; Marra Butler and wife, Tricia, and twins Cobi and Chase Combs, Lucia and Luca Chindemi; great-grandchildren Owen Cooper & Lincoln Butler; Amelia & Alec Butler; treasured nieces & nephews whom she loved as her own, as well as cousins and brother-in-law, Joseph O’Donnell, D.M.D and wife Ronney.
The family extends its gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the PAM Health Specialty Hospital at Wilkes-Barre General for their care and expertise.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Giombetti and his wife, Alice.
The funeral will be conducted Friday at 9:30a.m. from the Arthur A. Albini Funeral Home, 1003 Church St., Jessup, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00a.m. at Queen of Angels Parish in St. Michael's Church, First Avenue, Jessup. Interment, St. John's Cemetery, Jessup. Friends and family may call Thursday from 5:00p.m.-7:00p.m. at the funeral home.
