Claire Cossa Giombetti of Lake Ariel, formerly of Jessup died Tuesday February 14, 2018.
Born June 23rd, 1925 in Scranton Pennsylvania, she was the 1st daughter of the late Dominick Cossa and Pauline Stella Cossa.
From a very early age she showed an interest in music. She was a student of Mrs. Anne Liva who encouraged her to develop her talent. That led her to Marywood College where she studied piano, organ and flute. She developed a love of conducting and spent summers at Tanglewood in the Berkshires where she studied with Leonard Bernstein.
Claire graduated from Jessup High School in 1942 and received her Bachelors of Music from Marywood College. After graduation she accepted a position from Marywood Music Department to instruct college students.
She was married in 1946 to Leo Giombetti. He was in the coal business and was the owner of Lake Genero in Lake Ariel, PA. They had three children, Rene’ Leo and Karen.
Her life was full of many pleasures with her brother Dominic, Pearl and sister Santina. Dominic, sang at the New York City Opera and the famed Metropolitan Opera. Pearl Stella was adopted at 5yrs old, by Dominick and Pauline. It was a happy arrangement for all the Cossa’s. They all shared in the daily routine of gardening tending to the needs of the animals, cooking and music.
Claire was an active member of the Community Concerts Association of Scranton. She also was a Music Supervisor for the Head Start Programs of Lackawanna County.
She is survived by sons Rene Giombetti and wife Ivy, Leo Giombetti and wife Sharon, and daughter Karen Giombetti-Fogel and husband Ron. She was further blessed in her retirement years with seven grandchildren Samantha and Bethany Giombetti, Alexander and Nicholas Fogel and Bianca Manci, Gabrielle and Chiara Giombetti; great-grandson Lucan Manci.
